For the North Sea there are three kinds of offshore medical certificates: - UK, covers UK only, - Norwegian, covers Norwegian and UK sectors, - Dutch, covers Dutch, Norwegian, and UK sectors All three different certificates are valid for two years for persons below 50 years of age. Offshore Technical Skills Training Centres and SchoolsCertificate requirements can vary by unit location according to local requirements and regulations. Specific unit requirements to be found in specific job specification and employer's procedures and guidelines. It's therefore necessary to apply only for specific vacancies and exactly specify your certificates.
To work as a Motorhand, Derrickhand, or Driller in (Alberta) Canada after June 2008 you must either be registered as a Rig Tech Apprentice or Hold a Rig Tech Journeyman Certificate. Rig Tech Apprenticeship information.
Offshore Greenhand CoursesThese are intended for new inexperienced applicants. A roustabout is an unskilled-inexperienced worker ( trainee or helper ), the position serves also as a common entry level occupation for the oil rig's marine section. To work as a roustabout you must be physically strong and accustomed to heavy manual work - even in bad weather.The term greenhand comes from the requirement on some installations that newcomers wear a green hard hat to identify them as "new onboard" and may be not familiar with all regulations.
