Please note 4: Offshore salaries ( wages ) are calculated and based on a 84 hrs work week, i.e. 12 hrs per day 7 days per week. When the job listings give a day rate you won't get paid when you relax at home. If the day rate is USD 300 and rotation two weeks on / two weeks off, you get about 15 x 300 = USD 4.500 per month.

Please note 5: For offshore employment everybody must have special Offshore Survival ("BOSIET"), Fire fighting and Medical Certificates, also for catering jobs on oil rigs. The offshore catering department is different from the same department on cruise ships. The offshore galley ( kitchen ) has to feed may be 100-200 people 6 times per day 7 days per week. The workers coming off their shift, either at midnight or noon, only want to fill their stomach before going to sleep. There is not much need for a chef producing "culinary delights". Many times I have seem an oil rig cook's job description include the words "Financially responsible" or "Budget conscious". I would tend to translate that with something close to "stingy".
