If you do not know how to get started with your internet C.V. site, go to Don Pedro's Website Design Handbook.
BEWARE! When you put your email address on the net it will be collected by "spamming" spiders and you will start getting a lot of dirty advertising to your email box. You can avoid this by making your email address unreadable by the spiders. That's what I have done.
Go to hivelogic.com/ and get the safe code ( enkoder ) [That webpage is sometimes not available.]. There your e-mail address will first get encrypted and then converted to a self evaluating JavaScript. Of course, if you change to JavaScript you have to change your email address also. Otherwise the rubbish mail will continue coming from already collected mailing lists. See also Don Pedro's How to Hide my Email Address.
Once your C.V. (résumé) is on the net you don't need to attach it to your e-mail job application. Instead you can in your application letter just give a link to your C.V., the agent or employer can then get it directly from your website.
When you have your CV on the Net, don't do as most people do - i.e. just put it up and then forget about it. No, after signing off a ship you should add that ship and all necessary details as soon as possible. Keep your CV ( resume ) always fresh and up-to-date.
A CV you send by e-mail is OK when education and work experience stretch 5 years back in time. Your Net CV, however, should be complete. Start from finishing "Seafarer's Basic Course" until today - only when you write it you write it "backwards". That means all details come in descending order with the current / latest details first and the oldest details last. |
